About Me

I am an Applied Scientist II at Amazon, working on Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2025.

My research is in natural language processing and information retrieval, currently focused on the evaluation of generative models. I am interested in how quality is defined and measured when there is no single correct answer, how far automatic evaluators can stand in for human judgment given that human judgment is itself inconsistent, and what is lost when those evaluators are compressed into models small enough to run routinely.

My earlier work was on unsupervised semantic modeling: topic models for short and low-resource text (EMNLP 2022, EMNLP Findings 2024, ACL 2025), unsupervised keyphrase generation (ACL 2023, ACL 2025), and retrieval for long-form generation (EMNLP Findings 2024). The two strands share a concern with quantities that cannot be observed directly, the topical structure of a document and the quality of a generated text, and in both cases the work is to build reliable estimates of something latent. I have also taught a course on LLMs for long-form text generation at UIUC, and previously interned at Amazon and IBM Research.
